FedUp! Slow cooking Programme

FedUp! is a practical cooking course, in that it shows people how to make nutritious, budget friendly, low maintenance meals. The participants of the cooking courses receive a food package that allows them to recreate the meals from the course, a slow cooker to use at home and a recipe book with budget friendly recipes and suggestions for leftovers.

Slow cookers are simple to use and typically use over 60% less energy than ovens

At present, we are living through a cost-of-living crisis. The amount of people living in poverty is increasing and every opportunity to reduce the contributing stressors should be taken. Slow cookers present a much more energy efficient alternative to cooking in a conventional oven or stove and the recipes on the course are designed with managing cost in mind. The course is designed to gradually incorporate vegetable protein sources into diets, such as beans and pulses, that are cheaper than meat and form part of a more sustainable diet. The recipes also demonstrate how to make the most of traditionally cheaper cuts of meat, that tend to lend themselves to slow cooking.

training the trainer

No previous cooking experience is required, just a passion to share what you learn with others and a willingness to lead a community cooking course after completing the training.  On completion of attending Fed-Up Slow Cooker Trainer Course, a commitment is required to disseminate information and share experience through practical cooking demonstrations in your own community establishment.

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.

Create Better Lives

We have found that when people are actively participating in an activity, they find it easier to talk about aspects of their lives that they are struggling with, including their mental wellbeing. This provides the opportunity to better support them both in signposting to services and relationship building.
